Invitation
Dear Sir/Madam,
On behalf of the Pathology Department of Gandhi Medical College, and, The Annals of Medical Entomology, we are happy to invite you to the Ist International Seminar of Medical Entomology in the city of lakes, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. We believe that the Indian Medical Entomology now deserve the honour of gathering the scientists working in the field from around the world. Invitation to Bhopal, India is now extended to all of you.
He was Sir Ronald Ross (1857-1932) who first laid the foundation of medical entomology when he discovered the life cycle of the malaria parasite in mosquitoes in Secunderabad, India. Subsequently the discipline grew to such a magnitude that for the eradication of ancient curses like malaria, filaria etc., parasitologists, toxicologists, statisticians, vector biologists etc., realizing their responsibilities towards the mankind, joined the family of medical entomologists. Since then research on numerous insect borne diseases were carried out in this vast country.
It was Bhopal where on the fateful intervening night of 3rd and 4th December, 1984 the greatest disaster of most lethal MIC gas leakage occurred causing an irreparable damage to innocent women and children of citizen of India. The disaster has attracted the attention of scientists of many disciplines.
In addition, from several point of view like history, art, scientific tradition, geographic position etc. Bhopal has been selected, being the ideal place for such an important international event.
We are glad that our enthusiastic proposal has been accepted by the medical entomology and parasitology community and we hope to see you in Bhopal on 19th January, 2002.
